Classical I Ching Divination

It is absolutely necessary for the Classical I Ching method, is a good copy of the Book Of Changes.

Without which, the divination is at best not effective, but most of the time, void.

I. Preparation for Divination

Bear in mind that divination is a metaphysical event. What goes on in your mind while divining, e.g. doubts, prejudice, distractions, etc., can and will affect the readings.

Divination will only be effective when done in good spirit for the benefit of oneself and others. It is not possible for anyone to divine to harm others because the mind is not clear as mentioned above.

Focus on your questions, or the situation in which the divination is about. You need not necessary have questions, just having the situation in mind is enough.

Form your inquiry properly. Yes/no type questions would not necessary work for the Classical I Ching method.

If you have done a divination properly, try not to repeat the divination again and again. This shows your feelings of doubt, and will lead to mis-inteepretation of messages since there will be a mish-mesh of hexagram combinations in your way.

II. Cast three Coins

This is the most common technique used today. It is suited to the Classical I Ching Method. See Casting Coins.

Use this, or other techniques known to you, to obtain the hexagram(s).

Draw the lines of the hexagrams from the bottom up.

III. Refer to the Book Of Changes

Now you are ready to read the texts from the Book Of Changes. Using the I Ching Books listed below is the only way for effective readings. This is because they include 100% of the original texts, time-tested, and translated by experts dedicated to the task. It is not enough to use summaries of hexagram descriptions found on the web.
