Feng Shui Gardens

When we talk about Feng Shui Gardens, our aim is actually to improve the Feng Shui of the House, by altering external landscape, which is the garden.

Always start with getting the Feng Shui Map of the House, using a compass and the calculator.

See topic on how to Feng Shui.

Installing a Water Feature.

For Wealth luck, examine the Water stars. The most auspicious water star for this time period 2004-2023 is Star no. 8. Locate it's position.

If you are lucky, and that star no. 8 is in the direction of the house that has space, build a water feature in that part of the garden.

Water feature can be a small, pond or a pool. The feature has to fit into the landscape harmoniously.

Here is an example of a pond built in the garden in the sector of the house where the Water star 8 is located. The owners built it square shape, since 8 is an Earth element.

Water features should be put with care. Please do not install water features on Water Stars 2, 5 , 4, 7. These stars are untimely and can cause financial loss. If you already have a water feature in these directions and are experiencing loss of wealth, remove the water and fill up with rocks.

What is the rational behind water features?

Water stars are dynamic energies. Water has high latent energy. Qi is energy which is stored in water. To have a Water feature is to be able to hold that energy and thus magnifying its effects. So, only use water in auspicious sectors of the house.

Give lots of Color.

Colorful plants energize the qi in a landscape. Feel free to use color in the garden. Beautiful plants like roses are relatively easy to grow and are full of vibrant color when they bloom.

Some Feng Shui practitioners say roses aren't good because of thorns; but the thorns are so tiny. Can you see the thorns in this picture? If they are so tiny, they will not hurt. The colors and fragrance of roses lifts spirits with their calming Qi.

Use plants to soften harsh edges.

Use climbing plants to cover unsightly edges of buildings. It is an effective and cheap way of beautifying awkward corners.

Beautify corners with more flowers.

Make natural barriers with plant hedges

In directions where the water star is inauspicious, don't put a water feature. Instead make a wall, or a natural barrier with plants. In this garden, a wall of bamboo plants make a natural green wall, which also gives a feeling of privacy.

Bamboo wall took 2 years to grow. Since bamboo tends to spread wildly with rhizomes, a rhizome trench is dug around the plants and plastic rhizome block installed in the ground to keep the plant from spreading.

Feng Shui gardens are meant to provide a natural landscape to enhance the Feng Shui in the home. If you have a garden, you have a a good opportunity to enhance the good qi. The bigger the garden, of course the more effect it will have on the home.
