Feng Shui Kitchen Decorating Tips

Here are some Feng Shui Kitchen decorating tips.

The kitchen is an active, or "yang" room in the house. It is the part of the house in which the activity is created to create nourishment for the household. In most houses it is also where most of the food is stored.

A "yang" room activates the Water Star Qi in that room.

Refer to this section to revise the fundamentals of Xuan Kong Feng Shui.

The first thing to note is, of course the type of Flying Stars in the kitchen by mapping house with the Feng Shui Calculator and creating the house plan.

The Water Star is the bearer of Wealth. If the Water Star is Timely, it is auspicious, and will be effective if the decor is made to enhance the Auspicious Water Star.

If the Water Star is Untimely, steps must be taken to drain the unauspicious star.

Each Flying Star has a quality of the Chinese Five Elements, and they interact with each other according to this theory.

The first thing to do, is to identify the Water star, Mountain Star and Time Period Star in the Kitchen using the techniques in this section. Note the following:

  • Is the Water Star Timely or Untimely?
  • Do the Mountain Star and Period Star enhance, control, drain or exhaust this Water Star?
  • To answer these questions, refer to the Properties of the Flying Stars, and the Chinese Five Element Theory.

    Example 1:

Take an example of a kitchen with the auspicious Water Star no.9 (fire element), The Mountain Star 3 (wood element), and the Time Period Star no. 4 (wood element). The Water Star no. 9 is Auspicious and is enhanced naturally by the other two stars, since Wood generates Fire. This is good, however, in decorating, it is good enough to simply support the Star no. 9 by decorating with reds / orange / purple, and/or triangular objects and lamps.

Why do we not try to go one up to enhance the auspicious star no. 9 by using the wood element (green / blue colors and/or plants, bamboo and pole shaped objects)?

We don't use the wood element because we do not want to support Star 3 and (especially) Star 4 because these stars are not auspicious. Star no. 4 is inauspicious and should not be supported at all.

Some schools consider Star no. 9 in the kitchen a fire risk.

So far, the benefits of the auspicious star outweighs the risk. Reduce fire risk by using induction hobs, and not gas burners.

What if the Water and Mountain Stars in the kitchen are inauspicious?

    Example 2:

If for example the combination is Star 7 (metal) and Star 5 (earth), the best way to handle this is to create harmony between the stars' Qi. In this example Star 5 generates Star 7. Star 5 is a sickness star and is very inauspicious. Do not use the fire element (reds/oranges/purple) here! Instead, use the color Golden Yellow. This is a cure for Star 5. The other measure is to have wavy objects, black, navy blue color (water element) to drain the elements.

A special case, if the next room resides the Auspicious Water Star 8, you can bring that water star in to the kitchen by leaving the door to the kitchen open and allow movement between rooms. This is possible because the Water Stars are dynamic and can move from room to room with physical movement.

An important note about feng shui kitchens layout.

Feng Shui is more than calculating flying stars. It is also about creating a balanced, harmonious environment for living.

The kitchen is the central processing place for nourishment. Regardless of the Flying Stars, maintaining a clean, bright environment is important:

  • There should be adequate counter-top space for work.
  • Adequate storage space.
  • Counter tops should be uncluttered.
  • Adequate floor space for movement.
  • Ventilation.
  • Stove and ovens should be in a safe location, away from wooden beams, electrical wires.
  • Wash basin should be a distance from the stove, and not directly next to it.
  • Refrigerator should preferably be in a corner away from the stove.
  • Refrigerators must be uncluttered.

Actually, having feng shui kitchen is pretty much common sense, isn't it?
